As the Summer comes to a close, a host of new film releases are rolling out. Promising everything from more reboots and sequels to the return of some of our favorite directors, to some fairly new ones.
Below you’ll find a list of the most notable releases.
Starring: Michael Jai White, Byron Minns, and Anika Noni Rose
Hell-bent on avenging the death of his father, Johnny Black vows to gun down Brett Clayton and becomes a wanted man in the process while posing as a preacher in a small mining town that’s been taken over by a notorious Land Baron. A straightforward plot, Outlaw Johnny Black is undoubtedly a smaller-scale production than some of its Western peers, but White does an amazing job behind the camera. Delivering humor and action with each scene.
Starring: Jason Statham, 50 Cent, Megan Fox
The Expendables movies have become the staples of the modern action genre and the calling card of the franchise has always been its jam-packed cast, and Expend4bles is no exception.
Like the preceding films, the cast will feature an updated team, incorporating additional stars 50 Cent, Andy Garcai, and Iko Uwais. Jam packed with stars and action the Expend4bles are armed with every weapon they can get their hands on. When the world has no one else to turn to, the team that gets called is the Expendables.
Starring: Morgan Freeman, Josh Hutcherson, & Greg Germann
Franklin, a tech blogger, accidentally comes into contact with a time-altering ring after stopping an attack during his interview with mogul Anton Burrell played by Morgan Freeman.
The ring allows Franklin to go back in time 57 seconds to avenge his twin sister’s death against the corporation that supplied her with the drugs that led to her overdose.
Starring: Tyson Beckford, Stephen Burrows and Naomi Campbell
Fashion revolutionary Bethann Hardison looks back on her journey as a pioneering Black model, modeling agent, and activist, shining a light on an untold chapter in the fight for racial diversity.
Bethann Hardison burst onto French and American runways with a defiant strut and sui generis personality. Hardison called out fashion houses around the for the lack of models of color in their shows and the exclusionary casting calls that had become rampant in the industry (“No Blacks, no ethnics”), while profiting from Black consumers. Co-directed by Hardison and Frédéric Tcheng (DIOR AND I), the film is part memoir, with candid accounts from her son, actor Kadeem Hardison from A Different World Naomi Campbell, Kimora Lee Simmons, Tyra Banks, and Tyson Beckford.
Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, & Lily Gladstone
The family of an Osage woman, Mollie Burkhart, became a prime target. Her relatives were shot and poisoned. And it was just the beginning, as more and more members of the tribe began to die under mysterious circumstances.
In this last remnant of the Wild West—where oilmen like J. P. Getty made their fortunes and where desperadoes like Al Spencer, roamed many of those who dared to investigate the killings were themselves murdered. As the death toll climbed to more than twenty-four, the FBI took up the case.
